How to...stupify society in one hit!
I know most of you will probably be annoyed at this but I really really hate Big Brother and Australian Idol. Big Brother- I dont' think I have enough space to write about the show, but who cares? a bunch of stupid people you don't know doing stupid things to see who can last the longer? who came up with such an idiotic idea? What gets me is the amount of people that Love this and the fact its all over the radio and everyone talks, writes, thrives on it. Here the fifth (?) season of BB is just ending..in time for Australian Idol 3 to start again! Out of the two I'd say idol is the least evil but still...they also love to ridicule people on it and I can't imagine how much people must hurt at some of those auditions, the judges are so harsh! I do enjoy sometimes watching the final episde, well just the singing bit to see what they're like but I can't sit there for months on end every week to see what's happening.
No sir.
I read that BB was banned in France because it encouraged voyeurism? I dont know about that, people will always be voyeuristic. But it sure as all heck is an insult to our intellectual levels... are we really that stupid that we enjoy watching people we dont' know do nothing ? for the sake of it? I just don't get it!
Yes i'll watch Newlyweds and you could say I dont' know Jess and Nick but I know OF them. at least they're famous, they have careers and it follows their lives. I admit its not good but it's not as bad as BB ...To this day I've never watched an episode of BB, and despite the growth in popularity of the show, I think people are losing interest here. Out of all my friends and workmates I think I know only a handful that watch it...I still stand there and tell them I hate it... anyway.. what brings me to it is that I watched Supersize me the other day- fab movie I highly recommend it. One of the points Morgan brings up is that as society is getting fatter , it's also getting dummer (in America)...I know that's happening here too... They've had to make some high school tests harder because they weren't up to international standards. I know in Australia heart disease is one of the major causes of death and that 1 in every 5 people are overweight and obese... So who's fault is it?
Well...I don't know if we can really point the finger at McDonalds, we're all individualy responsible for our own health..But I still wonder why a cheeseburger costs $3 and a salad will cost me $10 at lunchtime.
Shouldn't it be the other way around if we're trying to encourage people to be healthy?
